Last Friday, family therapist Diane Simon Smith joined Special X for an hour-long Live Chat about how our families can navigate stress and anxiety during these uncertain times. Diane had so many helpful pieces of advice to share (see more of them in our takeaway), but the main points that resonated with us are:

  • It’s okay to not be okay.
  • We should acknowledge that it’s really uncomfortable to not know what’s going to happen, and to allow ourselves to feel our feelings.
  • We should do away with the idea that we’re supposed to be positive all the time and instead just be good enough.
  • “You’re not going to be the best teacher or the best therapist in the world for your child; you’re going to do the best you can,” Diane reminded us.
